The History of Spruceland Millworks
Our operation began in 1982, with two employees, a table saw and a second-hand forklift. By 1987 we had moved out of the small facility we’d been renting and built our first production facility, in Acheson, Alberta. We acquired Timeu Forest products in 1991, and built a brand-new sawmill in Fort Assiniboine. In 1992, a fire burned our main facility to the ground. Within 10 days, production had resumed in a makeshift facility erected in the parking lot. With the help of our 48 employees, we had a new 50,000 sq ft facility up and running in 100 days.
The following year, Spruceland teamed up with seven other entrepreneurs to build another new sawmill in Manning, Alberta. We sold our shares in the Manning sawmill in 2004, after 11 years of partnership. 1993 saw us open Barrhead Specialty Wood Products, which moved into the main facility the next year. In 2005, Spruceland invited key staff to share in ownership, and continues to partner with them, to ensure top quality service.
